Florida Fishing Guides
Florida is two fishing worlds in one state: the Keys and the rest. The Keys are ground zero for sight-casting to tarpon, permit, and bonefish on shallow flats — the Grand Slam of saltwater fly fishing. The rest of the state offers inshore redfish, snook, and speckled trout on both coasts, plus some of the best largemouth bass fishing in the country on the interior lakes and rivers.

Florida Keys (Islamorada to Key West)

The sport fishing capital of the world. Sight-casting on shallow grass and sand flats. Tarpon season runs March-July; permit and bonefish are year-round. Fly or light-tackle spin.
Everglades National Park
Snook, redfish, tarpon, sea trout
Backcountry mangrove fishing accessed by poling skiff. Some of the best inshore fishing in the US. Mosquito season (June-October) is real.
Tampa Bay
Snook, redfish, spotted seatrout, tarpon
Year-round inshore fishery. Spring tarpon in the bay, summer snook around bridge lights, fall redfish on grass flats. Massive guide fleet.

Florida fishing by season
Winter
Tarpon in the Keys (early fish, not peak). Inshore everywhere is good — snook, redfish, trout. Cold fronts push fish to deeper water briefly but fishing rebounds fast.
Spring
Peak tarpon season in the Keys. Permit fishing heats up. Inshore everywhere is firing. This is the best overall season for variety and weather.
Summer
Late tarpon in the Keys. Offshore season for mahi, sailfish, grouper, snapper. Inshore is good but hot and buggy. Afternoon thunderstorms daily.
Fall
Fall mullet run drives predators onto the beaches — snook, tarpon, jacks chasing bait. Best redfish season on both coasts. Gradually cooling, less humidity.
Nowhere else in the US can you sight-cast to tarpon, permit, and bonefish in knee-deep water and be back at a restaurant for dinner. The Keys are a global destination fishery. But the inshore scene across the rest of the state — redfish, snook, seatrout — is equally world-class and far less expensive.
If you want the Keys experience without the Keys price tag, book a guide in Homosassa for tarpon (May-June) or Mosquito Lagoon for redfish (September-November). Both are sight-fishing in shallow water with half the guide cost of Islamorada.
